Six Sigma & Process Knowledge

Hi,
I have been practicing 6 Sigma since few years from now and it has changed my way of thinking over the years. I am currently into a dilemma on the application of tools for the hypothesis testing as the advantage of the process knowledge are always superceding the analysis. In other words, how is the special causes and common cases are behaving in a process is well come under. I mean to say that there are opportunities exists as a low hanging fruit and this can be well undestood by the SME for the process which is most of the time myself. Is this natural? Have any one facing similar kind of mind blockage, please share your thoughts on this.
