Seeking book recommendation
by JimReid on 2nd January 2009Hi,
I'm new to the Lean Six Sigma scene. I'm a clinical manager in the British National Health Service. Can anyone recommend a good introductory text for me to gain a better understanding of Lean Six Sigma.
Many thanks,
Jim

Jim:
I would read Freedom from Command and control by John Seddon for the service sector.

Book recommendations ...
Depends how technical you want to go, for Six Sigma Lean in the Service Industry take a look at "Lean Six Sigma for Service (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lean-Six-Sigma-Service-Transactions/dp/0071418210/ref=pd_sim_b_2) by Michal George; this includes a case study from the Stanford Medical Hospital.
For a shorter version of the above try "What is LEAN Six Sigma" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/007142668X/ref=s9sdps_c7_14_at1-rfc_g1_si2?) however this does not include the Stanford case study.
Finally; for a readable but reasonably detailed technical walkthrough of the methodology take a look at "Six Sigma & Minitab" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Six-Sigma-Minitab-Complete-Practitioners/dp/0954681320/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=...) from Quentin Brook; the 2nd Edition includes Lean.
